About Customs (Preventive) Zone, Patna

The Patna Customs (Preventive) Zone is a part of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The field offices of this Zone deal with the administration and enforcement of the Customs Act, 1962, the Rules and Regulations made thereunder and other allied Acts in the matter of collection of Customs duty and Prevention of Smuggling.

There are 2 Customs Preventive Commissionerates (Patna and Lucknow). The Commissionerate of Customs, Patna was created in March 1972 vide Govt. of India’s Notification No. 95 dated 04.03.1972. The Customs (Prev.) Commissionerate, Lucknow, came into existence with effect from 20.06.1994, following bifurcation of the erstwhile Customs (Prev.) Commissionerate, Indo Nepal Border, with HQ at Patna.

Presently, Patna Customs (Preventive) Zone is headed by Chief Commissioner of Customs and it has two Customs Commissionerates under its jurisdiction, each headed by a Commissioner viz. the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Patna and the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Lucknow.
