Jhulaghat, a small town on the Indo-Nepal border, is named after a hanging bridge
on the Mahakali River.The Mahakali River flows from East to West along the Indo-
Nepal Border creating an international boundary. It is situated in a valley which
is approximately 1020 m above the sea level. LCS Jhulaghat was established
on 08.02.1962. It is situated at a distance of 36 Km from Pithoragarh District
Headquarter. The bridge, built over Mahakali River (also known as Sharda river
or Kali river), was built by the British Government in the year 1877. The bridge
is open for pedestrians only from 06:00 AM to 07:00 PM. Nearest railway station
is Tanakpur which is at a distance of 187 Km through hilly track. Nearest town
in Nepal side is Baitadi (18 Km) which is District Headquarter. People from
Nepal side come to India for job (Army personnel and others), education, job
competition, religious travel, meeting relatives etc. The area is surrounded by
mountains from all sides which results into less sunrays and less air. The Jhulaghat
town falls under Block Munakot and has a population of 2,646 people. This LCS is
