Kakrahwa is a small town (population-10,000) situated at Indo-Nepal border in
Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Birthplace of Lord Buddha i.e. Lumbini
is situated 10 Km north to Kakrahwa. National Highway-233 connects Lumbini
to Banaras passes through Kakrahwa, which makes it a place of international
importance. There is a Shastra Seema Bal company deployed at Kakrahwa border
to ensures the security of this border. There is a police chauki in Kakrahwa under
Mohana Police Station to ensure law and order situation at this border. There
are direct Government buses to Gorakhpur, Siddharthnagar and Basti and Delhi
from Kakrahwa. Nearest railway station Naugarh is 25 Km from Kakrahwa. Road
Customs Station Kakrahwa for clearance of baggage, passenger vehicles and
tourist vehicles. It has increased number of Buddhist tourist to Lumbini from
India. Currently this border is open for Indian and Nepalese citizens only.
The UNLOC code for Trade and Transport has been allotted to Nepali counter town recently. The EDI systems had already been installed at the LCS. The requisite no. of officers has already been posted to the LCS. Trade will start to take place as soon as UNLOC Code is integrated with the EDI system.
